New law could reduce Bogotá vehicle taxes

Only days after Bogotá mayor Samuel Moreno’s announcement that vehicles
taxes will not be reduced despite the extension of the city’s ‘Pico y
Placa’ system, a senator plans to present a draft for a law that would
enable such a reduction.

Senator Édgar Espíndola from Boyacá feels that it is only fair that those that are affected by the new measures, also receive a vehicle tax reduction.

“The restrictions that limit transit in a respective municipality or city should also carry a reduction of annual vehicle taxes,” the draft states.

The document adds that this reduction only goes for those vehicles that are actually registered in that city.

The new pico y placa system begins on February 6th, when cars with license plates ending in particular numbers will have to be left at home all day long.
