A new judge has been elected for the National Electoral Council to replace Carlos Ardila who had resigned in May.
The new judge, Yolima Carillo, was born in Maico from the Guajira department and studied law at the Barranquilla branch of the Free University of Colombia before eventually completing a PhD at the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
On being elected she said that “thank you for this opportunity – I represent not just a party but a growing trend in the National Electoral Council. I am a proud woman of the Guajira department, a noble land with a high respect for the law.”
The National Electoral Council is a Colombian institution that is responsible for, amongst other things, overseeing the election process and legally recognising political movements and parties.
