New Ecopetrol gas plant goes into operation

A new Ecopetrol plant producing liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has gone into operation in east Colombia, the state-run petroleum company announced Monday.

The Cusiana plant, in the department of Casanare in the Eastern Plains of Colombia, is the result of a $120 million investment. It went into operation on December 1.

Ecopetrol hopes the production from the plant will increase the consumer supply of LPG with a high propane content by up to 6,600 barrels per day.

The plant has a storage capacity of 2,000 barrels of LPG and the supply of gas from the Cusiana plant could represent 30% of current national demand.

Ecopetrol hopes that the plant will supply the markets in the center and east of the country and eliminate the need to import the product.
