New champions of Salsa crowned in Cali

Three couples and two groups were crowned champions at the 8th World Salsa Festival in Cali on Tuesday.

The event took place in the Cali bull ring and experienced a good turn out despite the weather. Hundreds of people came to watch the closing ceremony of the festival which lasted until the early hours of the morning.

The categories, ranging from Caleño style to group ensemble, were judged by an array of top coreographers and dance instructors.

The Caleño Style was won by Angie Alexandra Castro and Emir Nilson, with the  Couple On 1 and Couples Cabaret categories being attained by Stephania Wader with O. Segura and Eliana Katherine Feijoo with Sebastian Lozano respectively.

In the groups cabaret, Constellation America were crowned as champions with the ensemble category being won by Estilo y Sabor.

Maria Helena Quinones said that “The World Salsa Festival helps to visualize culture in Cali, the exhibition was attended by hundreds of visitors and revellers.”

Media reports drew special attention to the work of Luis Eduardo Hernandez, known as “El Mulato”, for his pioneering of the Caleno style of Salsa world wide.
