Neiva set for one of Colombia’s coolest festivals and beauty pageants

The southern city of Neiva is preparing the last bits of what could be one of Colombia’s coolest events and underexposed tourist attractions: the annual Folkloric Festival and National Miss Bambuco beauty pageant.

The 11-day festival is dedicated to bambuco, a folkloric music and dance style that originates from the Colombian Andean region.

Because of its cultural value and long history, the festival has been designated a national cultural heritage.

Less folkloric, but an equally important part of the festival is the annual election of Miss Bambuco. This beauty pageant draws contestants from all over the country, hoping to be elected Miss in one of the country’s most prominent beayty pageants.

This year, the festival will be held from June 14 until July 4.
