Neiva prepares for annual underwear marathon

Semi-exhibitionist sportsmen in the southern Colombian town of Neiva are preparing for the tenth edition of the “Marathon in Underwear” held annually on December 31st.

According to local newspaper La Nacion, the five-kilometer run was born in the neighborhood of Emaya where residents thought the almost-naked run was a fun way to say goodbye to the old year.

The race has slightly grown out of proportion and is now expecting people from different departments and will be covered by Colombia’s national television networks.

Contestants are obliged to run in underwear and must have consumed at least some alcohol before the race.

In previous years, the organization only allowed barefoot contestants, but because of the deteriorated condition of the local roads is now allowing footwear.
