The ten FARC hostages the guerrilla group on Sunday promised to release will be free by the end of March, former Colombian senator and hostage mediator Piedad Cordoba said Wednesday.
Speaking from her Twitter account, Cordoba said that “at the end of March we’ll have the release.”
Cordoba said she and her delegation had met with the Red Cross the day before and that release protocols were being drafted.
The ex-senator is currently in Brazil – who agreed to aid in the release two weeks ago – and said hostage release delegation would leave in helicopters from San Miguel, Braziland that “we’ll know the hostages’ coordinates when we’re in the air.”
Cordoba concluded saying that the Colombian armed forces “must suspend fighting in the release zone for 12 or 24 hours.”
The hostages are 10 policemen and soldiers held by the FARC, Colombia’s largest guerrilla group. Some have been held as long as 13 years.
Last Sunday the FARC announced its intention to release all its political hostages and discontinue kidnappings.
