Navy seizes 400 kgs of cocaine, arrests 5

Colombia’s Navy arrested five on Saturday in an operation that saw the seizure of a boat carrying 400 kilos of cocaine in the Pacific Ocean, El Espectador reported.

The boat was detained in the port city of Buenaventura by coastguards working for the Pacific Naval Force. Upon inspection, officials discovered 396 packages of pressed cocaine stored in a false bottom of the vessel that was disguised as a fishing boat.

According to the Navy, the cocaine would have been worth roughly $12 million on the international market.

With this latest event, the amount of cocaine seized so far this year by Pacific forces has reached 14.8 tonnes (U.S.) according to a naval spokesperson.
