Santa Marta to host transgender beauty pageant

Preparations are underway for Colombia’s annual National Transgender Beauty Pageant, which will take place in the Caribbean coastal town of Santa Marta from May 14 to 16, reports El Informador.

The event, organized by the Foundation for the Protection of the Rights and Lives of LGBT people, (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) “Angels of Life,” has registered 30 transgender candidates all hoping to win the title of “Trans Colombia 2010.”

The competition is divided into several different stages with band performances, a gay parade, a fantasy parade and interviews with the jury.

The event is expected to create jobs and attract tourists to Santa Marta.
