Colombian domestic flights up 14.5% in 2009

Colombian airlines transported 10.1 million passengers within the country in 2009, an increase of 14.5% from the previous year, EFE reported Wednesday.

According to government agency Aeronautica Civil, December was the month which saw the greatest volume of passengers on domestic routes, with a figure of 1.04 million travelers, an increase of 32.6% compared to the same month in 2008.

Aeronautica Civil noted a particularly large growth in the second half of 2009, with 925,096 passengers flying in July, 998,863 in October, and 1.04 million in December.

Avianca-SAM continued to dominate the national market in 2009, with 54.2% of all passengers choosing to fly with the Colombian national airline, followed by Aero Republica with 17.9% and Aires with 15%.
