Colombia’s National Electoral Council (CNE) officially approved the re-election of President Juan Manuel Santos, Colombian media reported on Thursday.
The CNE officially confirmed the re-election of President Santos and Vice-president German Vargas Lleras on Thursday.
In resolution 2202 of June 19, 2014 the CNE officially declared the election of Colombia’s next president to be in office until 2018. The resolution was signed by CNE’s president Pablo Guillermo Gil and vice-president Idayris Yolima Carrillo Perez, who underlined that no evidence of electoral fraud or irregularities were found in the verification proces, local newspaper La Nacion reported.
“The CNE has as a constitutional role in the declaration of the election, upon the completion of the ballots, which consists as a consolidation that in turn is compiled by our delegates in the various regions and departments as well as internationally,” the official body said according to Colombia’s W Radio.
The president and the vice-president will receive their credentials at a formal public event in the coming days, according to La Nacion.
Incumbent President Juan Manuel Santos was re-elected on Sunday by a margin of over 5% in the second round of Colombia’s elections, defeating hard-line opposition candidate Oscar Ivan Zuluaga. Santos received 50.95% of the votes while Zuluaga received 45%.

The National Registry reported that 47.7% of eligible Colombians, 15.7 million voters, exercised their right to vote during the second presidential round. The blank vote, a vote for neither candidate, decreased in the second round, constituting just over 4% compared to almost 6% of blank votes registered during the first presidential round.
