Nariño floods: number of victims raised to 42,000

The number of victims of the floods that hit Tumaco and the surrounding
area since last week has been raised to 42,000, authorities reported
Monday.

The Governor of the Nariño department, Antonio Navarro Wolf, asked Bogotá to officially declare the region a disaster area to have access to extra funds to attend the victims

According to the Governor, approximately 20,000 people lost their homes and crops in floods of the Rivers Mira and Telembí and an emergency plan is needed to help these families.

Navarro stated that the aid provided through Colombian solidarity has been insufficient to cover the expenses made in rescue efforts and to compensate those who lost their livelihood.
