New Fox network aims to capture Latin audience

Fox Hispanic Media has unveiled the programming lineup for MundoFox, the conglomerate’s new Spanish-language broadcast network set to begin in the fall.

MundoFox is a joint venture of Fox International Channels and Colombia’s RCN Television Group that will work using the tagline “Latino Entertainment, American Attitude.”

With an estimated 50 million Hispanics living in the U.S., news corporations decided to capitalize on the growing market for Spanish language fare, which could also be exported to South American markets.

Driving MundoFox’s programming will be a mixture of soap operas, game shows, movies, newscasts and sports, providing more options for the “new Latino” than the “limited” options currently available, said MundoFox president Emiliano Saccone.

“We hope to debut our U.S.-produced shows by the second year, perhaps even by the first,” Saccone said.

MundoFox will also air Fox TV series such as “Bones” and “American Dad,” along with Fox movies dubbed in Spanish.

MundoFox will syndicate its programming to various stations that combined broadcast to over 50% of U.S. households, according to Saccone.
