MTV to celebrate Colombia’s bicentennial

Video music channel MTV announced it will celebrate the bicentennial of Colombia’s Bicentennial of Independence from Spain with special programming over the weekend of July 17 and 18.

The channel plans to broadcast eight half-hour playlists starting from 10am to celebrate and promote the country’s musical talent.

The special broadcast is part of “MTV Bicentennial,” a larger project which accompanies bicentennial celebrations around Latin America. The project started in Argentina in May and has now made its way to Colombia.

Featured artists Juanes, Shakira, Aterciopelados, alternative rock band Don Tetto, Latin Billboard winning singer Fanny Lu and rock group Fonseca Y Doctor Krapula, among others. MTV also plans to include specially created on-screen graphics, tabs, promos and fillers to accompany the music.

Colombia will officially commemorate its Bicentennial of Independence on July 20.
