More than a million visit Bambuco festival

More than a million revelers visited the Bambuco Pageant and Folklore Festival in the Southern Colombia city of Neiva.

Over the weekend of July 2-4, more than a million people visited Neiva to see the culmination of the Bambuco Pageant and witness the coronation of this year’s Bambuco queen.

Bambuco is a form of traditional Colombian music with a beat structure similar to European waltzes. Bambuco music is often accompanied by dance, and the winner of each year’s dance competition is crowned the Bambuco Queen.

Neiva, known as the capital of Bambuco, has formally celebrated bambuco music every year since 1960.
