Colombian Green Party presidential candidate Antanas Mockus ruled out any partnership with Polo Democratico leader Gustavo Petro on Monday, saying that the Green’s only alliance would be with “the people.”
Commenting via his Twitter page, Mockus rejected any possible alliance with Petro in a potential second round of the upcoming presidential elections.
Petro said last Thursday that he would be interested in forming a coalition with the Green Party, if Polo Democratico were to reach a second round election.
Mockus, who also recently said that an alliance with Partido de Integracion Nacional (PIN) would be “extremely odd,” believes that the policies of his party are not compatible with other political parties in the race.
The Green Party leader believes he has “a covenant with the people” and that his “new proposals” would not fit with “traditional” ideas.
Colombians will head to the polls May 30 to elect their next president. If none of the candidates wins more than 50% of the vote, the two leading candidates will face off in a second round election
