Mobile apps make calling to Colombia cheaper, easier: Provider (feature)

Mobile apps for cell phones have made calling to Colombia both easier and cheaper, said one of the providers Tuesday.

According to Bogdan Obretin, spokesman of enjoyprepaid.com, the introduction of smart phones and their applications “have given us many alternatives to call abroad – direct calls, calls through Wi-Fi or through various apps you can get from your application store. With so many options to call abroad, rates have gone down making it more affordable to call your loved ones.”

Traditionally, “calling cards, and now, calls made from computers are the cheapest since they make use of the new VoIP technology (voice over the internet), a modern solution that offers clear voice quality at lower rates than traditional voice providers. Home phones and cell phones access the public telephone networks that were built for local calls and require high maintenance costs. That is why the rates are so much higher – since the costs to keep these networks up are also high,” Obretin told Colombia Reports in an interview sponsored by his company.

In the case of enjoyprepaid.com, “the new Nobel Dialer app makes calling to Colombia easier. If, until now, you would have to call an access number, enter your PIN code and your destination number, now you just need to select the number you wish to call from your address book and let our app do the rest. It only takes a few seconds to connect and you bypass your provider’s hefty rates, trading in for Nobelcom’s incredibly low ones.”
