Missing Israeli backpacker found dead in Peru

The body of the Israeli backpacker, last seen in Colombia on October 28, was identified in Peru on Monday.

The body of Omri Lahad, 23, was found nearly a month ago close to the Brazilian border but had not been identified, reports the Jerusalem Post. He is thought to have died of a venemous snake bite.

Lahad, who was last seen using an ATM in the Colombian amazonian town of Leticia, was declared missing on November 26.

Lahad is believed to have boarded a boat for Iquitos, Peru, with the intention of spending two weeks in the rainforest.

His remains were held in a local police station, and were identified only after a photograph of the backpacker was printed on missing person leaflets in Peru.

Israel is currently arranging for the body to be flown home.
