Miss Colombia denies paramilitary links

Miss Colombia has furiously denied rumors circulating about her relationship with the son of a convicted paramilitary supporter, according to Colombian gossip site Sweet.

Things are going from bad to worse for Miss Colombia Daniella Alvarez. After being attacked for her less that queenly demeanor only last week, Alvarez is now being accused of paramilitary links — infinitely more reputation-damaging (in the real world anyway, in the beauty world, probably about even).

According to a source close to the beauty, she is a very close friend of Jorge Alfonso Lopez, scandalous former mayor of Mangangue, and son of corrupt businesswoman Enilce Lopez, alias “La Gata” (The Cat).

Lopez senior, an entrepreneur who made her fortune in the Colombian lottery, was sentenced to nine years in jail for money laundering and supporting paramilitaries earlier this year. Junior, meanwhile, was dismissed from his position as mayor in 2010, and disqualified from re-running for 20 years, following investigations into shady deals during his time in office.

Not the best company for a newly-elected beauty queen then.
