At least 4 dead in north Colombia mine accident

An accident at the Cerrejon coal mine in La Guajira, northern Colombia, on Thursday killed at least four miners and injured another twelve.

According to initial media reports, the accident occurred when a platform carrying 16 miners collapsed while they were trying to repair one of the coal silos.

Dozens of miners have died in mining accidents in Colombia this year. An explosion in a mine in the Antioquia department in June killed 73.

The Cerrejon mine is the largest open coal mine in the world.
