FARC head ‘El Diablo’ captured

Colombian armed forces arrested FARC commander Dario Perez Orozco, alias “El Diablo,” in a military offensive against the guerrilla organization in the Tolima department, Colombian media reported Monday.

Military sources said that the arrest occurred in the municipality of Rioblanco, northeast of Cali.

El Diablo was head of the Miller Salcedo Front’s militia, which operates in the Tolima department. According to authorities, he was in charge of training minors in the use of explosives, planning terrorist attacks, and carrying out intelligence operations in the area.

He was also responsible for various acts of extortion, intimidation, and assassination of people living in the region. Among other things, officials cited El Diablo as the person responsible for planting a minefield that caused the death of a police official this past December.

At the time of arrest, El Diablo carried on his person a 9mm pistol and explosives.
