Microsoft launches paperless learning project in Colombia

Microsoft has launched a paperless learning program for 150,000 disadvantaged students from one of Colombia’s biggest cities, newspaper La Republica reported Thursday.

The initiative, called live@edu, will allow students from 94 institutions in Cali to complete homework without having to use pens and notebooks and provide them with an online question and answer space.

The Secretariat of Education in Cali has been working with the Information and Communication Technology Ministery since 2008 to develop use of the internet to connect teachers and students.

Sidney Leusson Angulo, an official from the Secretariat of Education said, “Thanks to our particpation in one of the national conferences about information and communication technology, we had the opportunity to learn about the solution offered by Microsoft and implement it as a pilot in one of our institutions with incredible results in terms of communication.”

Maria Paula Duque of Microsoft Colombia said, “Education is one of the tools that has the most power to change a person’s life, and it is important to create a consciousness of the role of technology in education.”
