Members of La U want Restrepo to resign

Congressmen of coalition party Partido de La U want their party leader
Luis Carlos Restrepo to resign. The inconsistency between Restrepo and
the party members is too big, Senator Jairo Clopatofsky said on Tuesday.

Restrepo lacks “political clout and experience to lead the party,” Clopatofsky noted after a meeting with 18 of the 54 Congressmen of La U.

“Facing the permanent failures of the party’s direction, headed by Dr. Restrepo, one thinks about asking for his resignation. … Doctor [Juan Manuel] Santos shall come on August 15 and assume the leadership,” the Senator told newspaper El Tiempo.

Members of La U requested former Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos to
return to Colombia.
Senator Armando Benedetti thinks that Santos is the only one able saving the coalition from falling apart.

Newspaper El Espectador reported on Monday that Restrepo had apparently already handed in his resignation.
