Colombia news - Medellin Cucuta

Independiente Medellin easily defended their lead in the Colombian Liga Postobon with a 3-0 win over Cucuta, while Santa Fe are back in the race after beating Nacional by the same score.

The first half of Medellin versus Cucuta went by without goals, but the hosts broke the deadlock through Luis Arias in the 50th minute.

Juan Ortiz went on to make it 2-0 in the 72nd and a late goal from John Restrepo meant that DIM had a comfortable 3-0 victory. At four minutes from the end, Cucuta’s Carlos Baez was sent off with a direct red card.

Santa Fe delivered a strong second-half performance against Atletico Nacional, with Luis Yanes scoring the opening goal four minutes after the hour.

Omar Perez then missed a penalty and Nacional claimed a goal, but this was disputed the referee who felt that the ball had not crossed the line completely.

In the final minutes, goals from Mario Gonzalez and Omar Perez set the score to 3-0.

In Saturday’s remaining match, America de Cali beat Millonarios 3-2.
