Medellin’s Ciudad del Rio Park

Located near the Industriales Metro stop, the Ciudad del Rio park was built in 2009 on the former grounds of an abandoned factory. Although the park appears a bit sparse at first glance, what it lacks in shady trees it makes up for in content and diversity.

You can find a skate park, sculptures, a small rock-climbing wall, playgrounds, and a maze, as well as grassy patches for lounging.

The crowd you find at Ciudad del Rio is more diverse and middle-class than what you find in most of the city’s other central parks. On a given day you can find skaters, cuddling teenage couples, body builders, kids, dogwalkers and more.

There are a number of nice cafes and restaurants next to the Museum of Modern Art. And don’t forget the museum itself which is full of cultural pieces and contemporary art.
