An engraving error has raised a few eyes at the World Games, hosted in Colombia’s third largest city, Cali.
The medals, which should read “The World Games, 2013 – Cali” are actually inscribed with ‘The Word Games” instead.
According to local press reports, organizers have been quick to apologize to the athletes that have been competing in the games.
The games’ director, Rodrigo Otoya, was quoted by El Tiempo as saying that “this is a mistake we have to accept and correct – it should not draw attention away from the achievement of the athletes involved.”
There are almost 40 sports taking place in the games, ranging from rugby and fist-ball all the way to Wushu – one of the more obscure (but still impressive) martial arts.
Despite the problem with the medals, there is good news for Colombia and the host city. On Monday, the gold medal for salsa dancing was bestowed upon a Colombian duo – especially fitting for the world capital of salsa.
