Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos and U.S. Senator McCain (R-AZ) Saturday expressed their grief over the shooting that took place in McCain’s home state of Arizona that killed six and left Democratic congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords critically injured and 13 others wounded.
“I am deeply saddened and shocked at the tragedy that is taking place in my home state of Arizona. The shooting of congresswoman Giffords and the deaths of other individuals is a terrible tragedy and one that has shocked me and our nation,” said McCain.
“Our hearts are with the families” of the victims “and we hope this will not happen again,” said Santos.
McCain, accompanied by Senator John Barrosso (R-WY) was in the Colombian coastal city Cartagena at the time of the Arizona shooting to promote a free trade agreement between the U.S. and the Andean nation and to look for himself what devastation was caused by floods in the north of Colombia.
