“Mayor of Carmen de Bolivar is crazy”

During a visit to the town in the department of Bolivar, several prominent members of the Carmen de Bolivar society handed the president an official request to psychiatrically examine their “crazy” mayor, Caracol Radio reports.

According to a significant part of the town’s population, the mayor rules in an aggressive manner and has the habit of revenge those who don’t do what he wants.

Many question the mayor’s sanity after he called a public referendum on the wish of having water, banned informal commerce and ordered all houses to be painted white.

The mayor’s also accused of having an aggressive attitude towards fellow members of the municipal board, local journalists and civil servants.

The mayor, a convinced admirer of Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, denies being insane and says it is the corrupt political elite that is crumbling.
