May car sales in Colombia up 49% on year

Car sales in Colombia went up 49.1% in May compared to the same month last year, a consulting firm said.

According to Colombian consulting firm Econometria, 28,205 cars were sold in May.

Cumulative automobile sales for the year stand at 131,187, which is almost 52% greater than last year’s sales.

Econometria estimates that 2011 automobile sales will reach 290,000 units.

The impressive increase in car sales is an indication of a strong economic growth in Colombia, the consulting firm said.
