Mass extradition includes prominent Colombian drug trafficker

Colombian authorities announced the first mass extradition of 2012, including one of the country’s most prominent drug traffickers, reported Colombian daily El Espectador Thursday.

Danilo Bustos Suarez is to be extradited alongside 15 Colombians and one Nicaraguan to the United States, Italy and Spain for a variety of drug trafficking offences.

Director of Colombian National Police General Carlos Ramiro Mena said, “Bustos Suarez was the main figurehead and overseer responsible for directing the transport of chemicals and drug laboratories which processed for shipment from Colombia’s Pacific and Atlantic ports to the streets of the United States and Europe.”

Bustos Suarez, who is believed to be a leading associate of wanted trafficker Daniel Barrera Barrera, alias “Loco Barrera,” will be extradited to the U.S. state of Florida, where he will tried for drug trafficking.

Nicaraguan citizen Franklin William McField Bent, alias “Buda,” who was captured in the northern Colombian city of Cartagena, will also face trial in Florida on arms and drug trafficking charges.

Daniel Barrera Barrera is currently at large, with a $2.8 million reward offered for information leading to his capture.
