A specially-decorated train will make rounds on Moscow’s metro line station for the next six months, providing passengers with an opportunity to read fragments from Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s best-known works.
The Marquez train is the latest venture in Moscow’s ‘Poetry in the Metro project,’ a cultural initiative which highlights the works of famous poets on the city’s metro trains. The walls of the train carry quotes from Marquez’s most celebrated poems and novels.
Colombia’s ambassdor to Russia, Rafael Amador Campos, suggested Marquez for the project, eager to remind Russians of the famous Colombian writer and Nobel Prize winner.
Moscow metro has issued half a million commemorative subway tickets, specially designed for this occasion, reports local media.
In 2010 the project featured verses by Chilean authors including Pablo Neruda and Gabriela Mistral, while last year celebrated Italian writers, including Dante Alighieri and Francesco Petrarca.
