Man arrested for sexual abuse of 4 daughters

by Katharina Wecker August 6, 2009

Colombia news - Adan Ruiz

Colombia’s police Wednesday arrested a man in Barranquilla who
allegedly sexually abused his daughters aged four, five, six and
eight years.

Medical and psychological examinations of the four children led to the arrest of Adan Ruiz after the eight-year-old girl told a neighbor that she was being abused by her father. The neighbor brought the child immediately to the local Family Welfare where the daughter reported the case to the prosecution.

On his capture, Ruiz denied everything. “I did not rape my daughters, I kill myself first before I would do something like that,” he said according to newspaper El Heraldo.

Despite his denial, the results of the medical examinations “were relevant” to request his arrest, The Family Welfare and the Regional Prosecutor General’s Office agreed. The hearing of Ruiz’ case will start Thursday.

So far in 2009, 177 cases of child abuse have been reported in Barranquilla.
