Cartagena’s beaches to get a makeover

The Caribbean city of Cartagena is planning a thorough makeover of the four and a half miles of beaches within its city limits.

According to newspaper El Colombiano, the planned redesign will take place between Crespo and El Laguito.

“The project aims to improve the urban design and the service areas in these sectors. There are roads that have deteriorated the connection between the city and the beach. We are looking to overcome this,” architect Luis Fernando Gaviria told the newspaper.

The redesign also seeks to protect Cartagena’s coastline, which according to environmental experts is threatened by rising sea levels.
