Estimated investments in Cali‘s hotel sector surpass $110 million, giving the city an extra 1,170 hotel rooms by 2013.
Projects by hotel chains Avia and Marriott constitute nearly half of planned investments, with proposals by the two companies together totaling approximately COP80 billion. Projects by these hotel chains would begin construction in 2011.
Several other small and medium-scale projects targeted at the corporate market are in either the planning or design phases. Among other projects are two hotels, which would provide a total of 180 rooms adjoining the Chipichape mall in the north of the city.
Spiwak, an additional hotel near the Chipichape mall, will begin operating at the beginning of October, providing 220 rooms and representing an investment of COP55 billion.
Luis Antonio Rodriguez, manager of the Spiwak project, said that Cali can offer opportunities for the hotel sector, as the city has entered a positive period and optimism reigns regarding the city’s economy.
