Liga Postobon: Junior and Once Caldas victorious

by Jonathan Roorda March 1, 2010
1.2k

Atletico Junior are back in the top four of the Liga Postobon following a 3-0 win over Deportivo Cali, while Once Caldas kept domestic hope alive beating Millonarios 3-1.

Junior had little to fear from Cali at Barranquilla’s Roberto Melendez stadium, where Victor Cortes put the hosts ahead in the 23rd minute. Jorge Casanova made it 2-0 in the 61st and club star Giovanni Hernandez added the third five minutes later.

La Equidad on the other hand, dropped out of the top four after losing 4-1 at Atletico Huila. Javier Araujo, Carlos Carbonera (2) and Ivan Velasquez scored for the vice-champions, while only Carlos Renteria found the target for the visiting side.

Santa Fe hosted Pereira in Bogota and ended up losing the match 0-2 with John Jairo Lozano scoring the opener on 80 minutes and Julian Baragona doubling the advantage shortly before the final whistle.

America de Cali and Envigado held each other to a 2-2 draw at Pascual Guerrero stadium. Envigado took a comfortable lead with goals from Carlos Alvarez and Freddy Hurtado but could not avoid that America fought their way back through Juan Angulo and Duvan Zapata, the latter scoring the equaliser with just eight minutes to go.

Days after their impressive 2-1 win over Sao Paulo in the Copa Libertadores, Once Caldas were also victorious at the domestic level as Millonarios were beaten 3-1. The Bogota outfit did take the lead through Mauricio Casierra in the 43rd minute, but second-half goals from Jose Velez, Dany Santoya and Dayro Moreno earned the Manizales side three valuable points.

In Sunday’s remaining match, Boyaca Chico and Deportes Tolima held each other to a 1-1 draw. Tolima went ahead through Rodrigo Marangoni in the 15th minute but Wiston Giron levelled eight minutes after the break.

With just four teams advancing to the next round at the end of the regular season, Cartagena, Medellin, Junior and Nacional are currently on course to make it to the semi finals.
