Liberals ‘interested’ in Partido de la U alliance

Members of Colombia’s Liberal Party are interested in aligning with the Partido de la U, according to House Speaker Edgar Gomez Roman, despite clashes between party presidential candidates Rafael Pardo and Juan Manuel Santos during a live debate last Sunday.

Roman, who supports the initiative, said that Partido de la U’s candidate Santos is “essentially liberal,” reports El Espectador.

Roman said that at least 20 representatives of the Liberal Party are interested in an alliance between the two parties, but warned that some members needed to be less “radical” in order to make it viable.

Congressmen from the Liberal Party urged their candidate, Rafael Pardo, to “open up” to the possibility of forming alliances with other candidates in early April.
