Most Colombian tourism companies lack quality certificate

Less than 3% of registered Colombian tourism companies have a quality certificate, the country’s trade minister said Thursday.

According to RCN Radio, Minister Sergio Diaz-Granados said that of the 15,600 registered companies only 238 tour operators, 207 hotels, 39 tour guides, 16 hostels and six restaurants are certified as offering a certain quality standard.

Diaz-Granados told the radio station that “the national government, as well as local authorities and the different tourist service providers, must commit to the improvement of quality of services.”

The minister announced that he will soon present the 2011-2014 Tourism Sector Plan to “promote a culture of excellence and quality requirements in the provision of such services.”
