Latin American treasures go digital

Nearly 136,000 digital resources have been devoted to the innovative Latin American Heritage Digital Library, reported local media Tuesday.

The promotion and preservation of Colombia’s heritage received a boost today as scores of drawings, photographs, music, monographs and other cultural material were added to an online database for all to enjoy.

The online library, which has drawn contributions from the National Libraries of Colombia, Spain, Brazil, Chile and Panama, opened at the National Library of Spain (NLS) in Madrid on Monday.

The project came about with the aim of integrating the invaluable resources of participating libraries and allowing easy access to a single portal, according to a statement by the NLS.
