by Javier Emilio Valencia September 15, 2009

Colombia news - coal

One hundred and ten million tons of thermal coal were discovered in northern Colombia, Brazilian energy company MPX MPXE announced Tuesday.

According to the Brazilians, the discovery was made in an open-pit mine in the coal rich department of la Guajira.

More probes are being conducted as coal experts believe there are more large mines in the zone of the discovery.

La Guajira hosts El Cerrejon, the world’s largest open-pit coal mine.
