The Colombian Soccer Federation (FCF) announced Tuesday the confirmation of Eduardo Lara as
coach of the national team. Lara took responsibility after Jorge Luis
Pinto’s sacking and is now certain of the job.
Lara had his first serious tests last week, when Colombia faced Paraguay and Brazil in World Cup qualifiers. Paraguay won 1-0 but Brazil were held to a goalless draw.
The manager, born in the town of Pradera, Valle del Cauca, earned his coaching degree in Argentina before managing Boca Juniors de Cali in his home country.
In 2001, Lara moved to Deportes Quindío and helped the side to promote to Colombia’s top flight.
Two years later the manager began to work for the national youth teams. The success achieved there earned him the trust from the Colombian FA, who turned to the 49-year-old to take the reigns after Pinto’s departure.
Colombia face Nigeria in a friendly on November 19th and play against the Catalan selection two days after Christmas.
