Kidnapped foreigner rescued in Santa Marta

A kidnapped foreigner has been rescued by the Colombian intelligence agency DAS and the military near the northern Colombian city of Santa Marta, newspaper El Tiempo reported Wednesday.

Richard Anthony Mambre, 68, was rescued Tuesday afternoon — 11 days after his kidnapping — after he secretly placed a call to authorities under the noses of his captors. The call was traced to a farm in rural Guachaca, outside of the coastal Colombian city of Santa Marta.

El Tiempo described the victim as a “foreigner,” without specifying what nationality he holds.

Authorities reported that they apprehended one of the kidnappers at the Guachaca farm, who revealed the location of Mambre and two of his captors.

Three alleged kidnappers have been arrested. All are residents of the Aguas Coloradas village in the Cordoba department.

According to the victim, who was visiting Santa Marta for three months from Curacao, he was forced into a vehicle on August 19 outside of the El Rodadero resort. The kidnappers allegedly demanded a $56,200 ransom for Mambre’s freedom.
