The mother of a one-week old baby who had said her baby was kidnapped from
her a week ago, admitted to murdering the child herself.
Mother Johana Andrea Macias admitted to investigators in the eastern Colombian city of Bucaramanga that her story about unknown men kidnapping the baby was untrue and that she killed the baby. According to Bucaramanga newspaper La Vanguardia, the woman is suffering from psychological problems.
The lifeless body of baby Esteban Alejandro was found buried in a plastic bag outside Bucaramanga.
Police do not suspect the father of the child of being actively involved in the crime, but are investigating whether he knew about it.
