Key witness links high army officials to extrajudicial killings: Report

A key witness has implicated two high-level Colombian army officials in cases of extrajudicial executions committed by the armed forces, W Radio reported Tuesday.

Apart from the two top officials, the anonymous witness implicated several lower-ranking members of the army in the killings.

The radio station did not report how many so-called “false positives” cases in which the suspected members of the military were implicated.

False positives was a term coined for the execution of civilians who were then dressed up by the army as guerrillas and presented as combat kills, to artificially boost military success rates.

The Prosecutor General’s Office said in June 2011 that some 2,000 Colombian civilians had been extrajudicially executed by members of the security forces.
