‘Karina’ sentenced to 20 years in jail

Demobilized FARC guerrilla commander ‘Karina’ was sentenced to twenty years in jail Thursday for recruiting children.

According to the judge, it was proven the former commander of the guerrillas’ 47th front had recruited two boys and two girls to fight for the FARC between 2000 and 2002. Two of the minors were executed after they attempted to escape.

The former guerrilla was also ordered to pay a fine of approximately US$290 thousand.

‘Karina’, who was named ‘peace manager’ by the government as a reward for her desertion and help to the army, will not have to go to jail unless she fails to collaborate with Colombian investigators.
