‘Karina’ allowed internet

Demobilized FARC commander ‘Karina’, who is expected to be released
Thursday, will not be allowed to leave Bogotá, but will be allowed
internet.

The sentence of the former commander of the guerrillas’ 47th front and a second demobilized guerrilla, Raúl Agudelo, is suspended as part of the
Government’s strategy to persuade other members of the FARC to lay down
their weapons and surrender. They will enjoy reduced sentences if they
collaborate with justice, give information that can be used in the
fight against the FARC and help repair their victims.

The two “managers of peace” are allowed to leave prison between 7AM and 5PM and are allowed to receive mail and use the internet. They will have to call to the prison authorities six times a day and will be continuously monitored by authorities.

‘Karina’ is one of the most prominent rebel leaders that voluntarily
surrendered. She has confessed eight murders and is suspected of
extortion and kidnapping. She gave herself in on May 18, 2008.
