Junior held at Cali, Nacional beat Cucuta

by Jonathan Roorda August 22, 2010

Colombia news - Nacional vs Cucuta

Junior of Barranquilla fought themselves to a 2-2 draw at Deportivo Cali on Saturday while Cucuta Deportivo suffered a 1-0 defeat at Atletico Nacional.

Defending champions Junior had a tough night at Deportivo Cali but did take home a point after securing a 2-2 draw.

Jonathan Alvarez put Cali in the lead after 14 minutes but Carlos Bacca restored the balance six minutes before the break. Four minutes after the interval, Mario Gimenez made it 2-1 but Junior would not give up and got their second equaliser through Paulo Arango with eight minutes to go.

Independiente Medellin had earlier earned a point as well, drawing 1-1 in their away match at Deportes Quindio. DIM went ahead through Luis Arias in the 14th minute but Fainer Torijano levelled 30 minutes later.

In the last match of the night, second-placed Cucuta Deportivo were on their way to a goalless draw at Atletico Nacional but home fans were given a treat in the fourth minute of added time when Darlon Pabon finally broke the deadlock, 1-0.

On Sunday, Bogota outfit Independiente Santa Fe travel to face Deportivo Pereira in an attempt to extend their lead over Cucuta from one to four points.
