Judicial strike continues despite negotiations

The strike that’s been paralyzing Colombia’s judicial system for close
to a month now will continue, despite progress made in the negotiations
between justice workers union Asonal and the President Álvaro Uribe.

Asonal chairman Fabio Hernández said friday he is confident the President will be able to make the concessions needed for the strikers to go back to work, but that for the moment the strike will continue.

The shut down of the judicial system has lasted nearly for weeks. According to the government, over a thousand criminals had to be released because their trials couldn’t be properly processed.

The union demands higher salaries for all workers inside the judicial system.
