Juanes: re-election Uribe dangerous for Colombia

Pop singer Juanes spoke out against a possible 2010 re-election of Colombian
President Álvaro Uribe Wednesday saying it would be “dangerous for the
country and for himself.”

The singer, speaking with the press two days before a small Colombian tour, asked for recognition for what Uribe had accomplished over the past six years, but added Colombia needs change.

According to Juanes, what Colombia needs now is “a leader that delivers a conciliatory dialogue to the country and generates hope and peace, instead of this culture of warmongering.”

He reminded the press it had been the pacifist attitude of U.S. President-elect Barack Obama that brought him victory in the November election.

Juanes added he liked the aspirations of former Medellín mayor Sergio Fajardo to become Colombia’s next president.
