Journalist shot dead in northern Colombia

A Colombian journalist was shot dead in northern Atlantico Department Thursday, El Pais reported Friday.

Jesus Martinez was shot three times by two men on a motorcycle in the town of Sabanalarga.

Martinez was the musical and cultural director of a local radio station. According to family members, he had not mentioned any death threats prior to his murder.

Sabanalarga Government Secretary Jesus Movilla told local media that there were many witnesses and that a reward would likely be offered for information about the killing.

The Foundation for Press Freedom is in the process of documenting the murder although it is not yet clear if it was related to the victim’s profession.
