Colombia journalist and editor, Diego Gomez, was attacked and wounded Tuesday by a motorcycle hitman in the southern city of Cali.

According to police reports, Gomez’s vehicle was intercepted while on the highway by an unknown man on a motorcycle who fired five shots upon the journalist before fleeing the scene in an unknown direction.

Gomez, who apparently suffered five gun shot wounds following the attack, was transported to the nearest hospital. His condition has not been unreleased.

Police coronel Nelson Rincon said that no signs of robbery were discovered and police were investigating if the journalist had been receiving threats before the attack took place.

“We are developing operations to try and identify the responsible,” said Rincon. “We know it was one man on a motorcycle.”

The new was announced by directors of Universidad Valle where Gomez worked.
